With the support from people throughout the nation, people in Kamaishi resumed their activities. The traditional arts worked as a symbol to unite the local communities in the tough times.

The tiger dance named Tadagoe Toramai has a long history. It is believed to have developed as a dance to encourage the soldiers. The white tiger is one of four holy animals. The festival is held in autumn every year.

Two guides with hand ropes lead the parade followed by five singers, four members with boxes, four members with middle-size spears decorated with feathers, and two members with large-size spears.

The society also preserves “yoroi-kenbai” dance (a dance played by dancers in body armors). At Ofunato Kita elementary school, a traditional arts club was established in 2013. The boys and girls learn the dances as well as the histories of the arts from the society’s members.
